Perform electrical check at radiator fan control unit -J293
Electrical check on control unit -J293 (version for High-pressure sender -G65)

A87-0273

→ Pin assignment for radiator fan control unit -J293

  • • Fitting location:
on left longitudinal member in engine compartment
  • • Function:
    • • Switches radiator fans -V7 to 1st and 2nd speed
    • • Actuates AC magnetic clutch -N25.
    • • Processes the square-wave signal of high-pressure sender -G65 and, if the refrigerant circuit pressure is OK, sends a positive signal to -E87.
    • • Switches on pump for coolant supply -V51 (in vehicles with pump for coolant supply -V51) when the ignition is switched on. The pump remains in operation for a brief time after the ignition is switched off.

=> Relevant Workshop Manual, Injection and Ignition system

Notes:

  • ♦ The following contacts in connector -A- to control unit -J293 are vacant:
    • • Contact 1 (in vehicles without pump for coolant supply -V51)
    • • Contacts 3, 5 and 14
    • • Contact 11 (reserved for vehicles with diesel engine).

=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-finding and Fitting Locations binder

  • ♦ The contact 13 in connector -A- is intended to switch off the compressor with the dash panel insert (due to coolant temperature too high). As the switch off is performed simultaneously via the operating and display unit -E87 this contact is not assigned in all vehicles (the assignment is dependent on the design of the vehicle wiring).

=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-finding and Fitting Locations binder

  • ♦ Radiator fan control unit -J293 versions and vehicle wiring differ for vehicles with pressure switch -F129 and high-pressure sender -G65.

=> Parts List

=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-finding and Fitting Locations binder

  • ♦ The control unit -J293, installed in vehicles with high-pressure sender -G65, is available in several designs. Only the design in which the radiator fan is always switched on with the compressor is currently installed in the Audi TT (the first fan speed is switched on independently from the pressure in the refrigerant circuit).

Contact 1, earth

Contact 2, signal output (square-wave signal to -J293 and to engine control unit)

Contact 3, positive (terminal 15)

Notes:

A87-0261
  • ♦ → The compressor will not be switched on if connector -B- is disconnected.
  • ♦ High-pressure sender -A- is an electronic control unit that generates a square-wave signal whose signal ratio changes with the pressure in the refrigerant circuit =>Page 01-157.

Pin assignment at coolant temperature switch -F18 / -F54

Switch -F54 (between contact 1 and 2 closes at approx. 95 °C - the radiator fans are switched to 2nd speed).
