Diagnosis and repair

{tag}846775604@

During the check and adjustment procedures, the engine must not be operated.
1.Disconnect two port vacuum connector from VRV located on left side of fuel injection pump.
2.Disconnect throttle cable from throttle lever located on right side of fuel injection pump.
3.Remove throttle return spring. Install one end of spring over throttle lever ball stud and other end of spring over throttle cable support bracket. Insert gage block T83T-7B200-AH (.515 inch) or equivalent, Fig. 5, between pump boss and throttle wide open stop.
4.Install a suitable vacuum pump onto upper port of VRV (vacuum supply side).
5.Install a vacuum gauge to lower port of VRV marked TRANS.
6.Apply and maintain 20 inches Hg vacuum to VRV. Vacuum gauge should indicate 6-8 inches Hg vacuum. If gauge does not indicate specified amount, proceed as follows:
a.Loosen the adjustment screws attaching VRV to the fuel injection pump.
b.Rotate VRV until correct vacuum reading on gauge is obtained.
c.Torque adjustment screws to 75-90 inch lbs. If correct vacuum reading cannot be obtained, replace VRV.
7.Remove gauge block, then reconnect throttle return spring and throttle cable.
8.Again apply 20 inches Hg vacuum to VRV, and while maintaining vacuum, cycle throttle five times from idle to wide open position. Vacuum gauge should indicate at least 13 inches Hg vacuum with throttle in idle position. If gauge indication is less than specified, replace and then adjust new Vacuum Regulator Valve.Fig. 5 VRV Guage Block InstallationFig. 5 VRV Guage Block Installation
