Instructions for use and safety
  WARNING
t  In hybrid vehicles, the hybrid-relevant components in the working area must be visually inspected → Chapter
t  In the event of conspicuous findings or uncertainties, contact your responsible high-voltage technician or specialist electrician!
t  Brake fluid must under no circumstances come into contact with fluids containing mineral oils (oil, petrol, cleaning solutions). Mineral oils will damage seals and sleeves of brake system.
t  Brake fluid is poisonous. In addition, due to its corrosive nature, it must not come into contact with paint.
t  Brake fluid is hygroscopic, i.e. it attracts moisture from the surrounding air and therefore must always be stored in air-tight containers.
t  Wash away spilt brake fluid using plenty of water.
t  Do not reuse extracted (used) brake fluid.
t  Observe disposal regulations!
  Caution
For this vehicle only brake fluid VW 501 14 -B 000 750- must be used.
Procedure, changing brake fluid
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system

t  Brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234-
  W00-11277
t  Brake bleeding wrench -VAS 5519-
  W00-10957
t  Brake bleeding tool -VAS 6564-
Observe → operating instructions for VAS 5234!
–  Adjust correct pressure on brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234-: → Brake systems; Rep. gr.47
  W00-11595
–  Pull plenum chamber cover under seal until cuts can be carried out at marked points -arrow- without damaging seal.
–  Cut cover at marked points -arrow-.
–  Fold cover up.
  N01-11063
–  Unscrew cap -1- from brake fluid reservoir.
  N01-11065
–  Extract as much brake fluid as possible using suction hose from brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234- with strainer installed.
  Note
Ensure that no brake fluid runs through the strainer after completing the extraction (the brake fluid level in the reservoir must be even with the lower edge of the strainer).
  WARNING
Do not reuse extracted (used) brake fluid.
Observe → operating instructions for VAS 5234!
–  Adjust correct pressure on brake filling and bleeding equipment -VAS 5234-: »Running gear, brake systems« → Running gear, brake systems; Rep. gr.47»Bleeding brake system«
–  Place brake pedal depressor -V.A.G 1869/2- between driver seat and brake pedal and tension it.
–  Screw adapter onto brake fluid reservoir.
–  Connect filling hose of -VAS 5234- to adapter.
–  Remove caps from bleed valves of brake calipers.
–  Push collector bottle bleed hose onto rear bleed valve → Remark, open bleed valve and let appropriate quantity of brake fluid run out. Close bleed valve, torque: »Brake systems« → Brake systems; Rep. gr.47
  Note
Use an appropriate bleeder hose. It must seat tightly on bleeder valve so that no air can enter the brake system.
1)  Start at rear right of left-hand drive vehicles and at rear left of right-hand drive vehicles.
Repeat procedure on other side of vehicle at rear.
  Note
If brake caliper has 2 valves, first connect the outer and then the inner bleed valve.
–  Push collector bottle bleed hose onto front bleed valve → Remark, open bleed valve and let appropriate quantity of brake fluid run out (see following table). Close bleed valve, torque: »Brake systems« → Brake systems; Rep. gr.47»Repairing front brake calipers«
2)  Start at front right of left-hand drive vehicles and at front left of right-hand drive vehicles.
Repeat procedure on other side of vehicle at front.
Table: Sequence and quantity of brake fluid
  N01-10693
Sequence: Disengagement clutch, wheel brake cylinder, brake calipers Quantity of brake fluid which must flow out:
Disengagement clutch bleed connection (hybrid vehicles) 0.10 litre
Front left 0.25 litre
Front right 0.25 litre
Rear right 0.25 litre
Rear left 0.25 litre

Total quantity: approx. 1.0 litre, for hybrid models approx. 1.10 litre
–  Fit caps on bleed valves of brake calipers.

Additionally for hybrid vehicles:
–  Remove noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
–  Pull cover cap -1- from disengagement clutch bleed connection.
–  Push collector bottle bleeder hose onto bleed valve. Open bleeder valve and let appropriate quantity of brake fluid run out (see table).
–  Close bleed valve and remove bleeder hose.
–  Place cover cap onto bleed connection.
–  Connecting diagnosis tester → Chapter.
–  Performing functional check → Automatic gearbox 0C8 - 8-speed; Rep. gr.30.
–  Install noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
Continuation for all vehicles:
–  Move fill lever of -VAS 5234- or -V.A.G 1869- to position -B- (see operating instructions).
–  Remove filler hose from adapter.
–  Unscrew adapter from brake fluid reservoir.
–  Check brake fluid level and correct if necessary.
  N01-11057
–  Screw on cap -1- of brake fluid reservoir.
–  Fold cover down again and push beneath seal.
–  Remove brake pedal depressor.
–  Check pressure and free travel of brake pedal. Free play: max. 1/3 of pedal travel.
